A poll of UK gilt dealers shows the median 2027/28 gross financing requirement rising £26.7 billion to £334.3 billion, while headroom against the 2029/30 budget rule falls to £15.1 billion from £23.6 billion.
The poll points to a bigger government borrowing need and a thinner fiscal buffer against the budget rule. A weaker fiscal cushion can pressure UK gilts and sterling if markets demand a higher risk premium to fund the larger financing gap.
