US chip stocks extended declines at the open, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index opening down 3.8% as SK Hynix, SanDisk, Micron, Western Digital and Nvidia all fell sharply, while the Dow rose 0.46% and the Nasdaq fell 1.29%.
The chip-sector drop is broad and sharp even as the Dow holds in positive territory, pointing to a rotation out of AI-linked and other growth chip names rather than a company-specific problem. That divergence can keep near-term pressure on Micron, Nvidia and peer memory/chip stocks while the Dow's gain suggests resilience in non-tech sectors.
